Aeneas Faversham Forever
Presenting the brand new show from the Penny Dreadfuls for 2008! Winner! ‘Best Comedy Show’ at the Brighton Festival Fringe, May 2008.
The end is nigh! Victorian children’s author Rufus Hambleden is caught in a diabolical conspiracy that threatens the Empire, and the world. With a devious story of betrayal and hats, Aeneas Faversham Forever takes you deep beneath the vaults of London Bridge. Contains scenes of murder, impending apocalypse and children’s literature.
This show marks a significant step away from their previous shows of set-free short sketches which they have toured around the country since 2005.
After penning mini epics for each episode of their succesful radio for the BBC this year, following the adventures of Victorian England’s greatest explorers, entrepreneurs, illusionists and many more, the Penny Dreadfuls have finally transferred their love of narrative to the stage.
Taking their cue from 19th century gothic horror tales, Victorian pulp fiction, and the Victorian obsession with the occult, the Dreadfuls have penned a riproaring hour long play, a theatrical “comedy masterpiece” (- Three Weeks: Brighton) with Dickensian characters and a story of revenge, suspicion and murder across the underworld of Victorian London – “a villainous piece of derring-do” (- The Stage).
Featuring stunning lighting from award-winning designer Neil Hobbs and beautiful shadow puppetry from acclaimed Edinburgh puppeteer and award-winning director Jeremy Bidgood, this production is on a whole new level for the Dreadfuls.
Where can I see this show?:
- N20 Festival at the Battersea Arts Centre, 22 July
- Edinburgh Festival at the Pleasance Courtyard 30th July – 25th August, 7.10pm

“Laughs coming thick and fast – fantastic! I loved it!”
★★★★★ – Latest 7 PICK OF THE WEEK
“Not for nothing have they been compared to some of the greatest legends of comedy history, like the Pythons and Spike Milligan. If they continue in this vein, The Penny Dreadfuls cannot fail to be added to that list.”
★★★★ – Edinburgh Evening News
“A Victorian comedy masterpiece – unfailingly funny.”
★★★★ – Three Weeks PICK OF THE DAY
“These three guys will go far: witty, imaginative, hilarious.”
★★★★ – Fringereview.co.uk
“The protean ability of performers Humphrey Ker, David Reed and Thom Tuck lead the audience through their warped version of Victorian London as they effortlessly adopt a wide range of distinct accents and physicality for each of the many characters. This promises to be one of the most promising shows at the Fringe”
★★★★ – The Journal
